Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious and that the boy's family have been informed.

The body of a teenage boy has been found in the River Wear, Durham Police have said.

The body was recovered in a stretch of the river near Bishop Auckland on Monday, following a multi-agency search operation.

According to a police spokeswoman, formal identification has not yet been carried out but the body is believed to be that of a 13-year-old boy.

She said: "His family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this tragic time," and added that the death was...
