Coal and wet wood to be banned for house fires by 2023

Dirty fuels burned in household stoves and open fires are set to be banned as Britain ramps up efforts to tackle toxic air.

Plans to phase out sales of the most polluting items – house coal and wet wood – have been confirmed as part of a drive to tackle tiny pollutants known as PM2.5, which can penetrate deep into lungs and blood and cause serious health problems.
