Extinction Rebellion protester ordered to ‘get a job’ by judge for vandalism

A volunteer tree planter has been ordered by a judge to seek employment after he sprayed graffiti onto a war memorial honouring women.

Joseph O’Malley, 33, wrote the word ‘mother’ on the 23ft sculpture during an Extinction Rebellion demonstration along Whitehall last November.

O’Malley appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in clothes that were too big for him, a wooden beaded necklace and shoes that were ripped open.
