Glaswegian care worker receives Eleanor Marx award for women's strike role

A GLASWEGIAN care worker has received the Eleanor Marx award for being a “shining light” in the Glasgow Women’s Strike.

GMB home care branch secretary Shonagh Thompson was given the award yesterday afternoon to a standing ovation.

Alongside organisers Hazel Nolan and Rhea Wolfson, who both spoke earlier in the day, Ms Thompson was commended for her work on the equal pay strike earlier this year. It won £550 million in compensation money for Glasgow City Council’s female...
