Storm Aileen damage - Britain ravaged as 65mph winds spark chaos

Heavy rain fell across the country overnight, with Bainbridge in North Yorkshire seeing 35.4mm and Walney Island in Cumbria recording 27.8mm.

Aileen was the first storm of the season to be named by the Met Office and brought severe gales and heavy rain across northern and central England and Wales overnight.

Weather warnings were issued as many parts of England and Wales had gusts of 55mph to 65mph.
