I’m afraid of what a life without marriage might be like. And yet, I know I will never get married

It isn’t that I object to marriage on political grounds, it’s more that it has never seemed normal to me.

I’ve had marriage on my mind in recent weeks. Not because it’s on my horizon, but because it seems further out of sight than ever before. I’ve been capable of very little but consuming easy-going cultural products for months, which means that I’m seeing a huge number of weddings.
