Brexit betrayal? Article 50 was 'stacked against UK' and drafted by Major's right-hand man

BORIS JOHNSON may be on the brink of a Brexit deal but a newly released book has revealed how Article 50 was actually “stacked against” any country wanting to withdraw from the EU – and it was drafted by Sir John Major's right-hand man during Maastricht negotiations, Lord John Kerr.

Mr Johnson  is hoping to secure a Brexit deal before the EU Summit begins tomorrow, so he can avoid evoking the Benn Act and asking the EU for another extension. Negotiations hang on the edge of a knife – but Britain's future relationship with Brussels has been up for debate since former Prime Minister Theresa May triggered Article 50 – the 250-word clause in the 2007 Lisbon Treaty explaining how an EU country can leave the union unilaterally – in March...
