Andy Murray ready to sit out of Davis Cup clashes in hope of avoiding injuries

Andy Murray has hinted he will not play every singles match at the new Davis Cup this week as he returns to the Great Britain team for the first time in three years.

The revamped format would see Leon Smith's side play five matches back-to-back to reclaim the trophy they won in 2015.

The double Olympic champion took 12 days off after winning the title in Antwerp and admitted he put on 10 pounds.

And with Britain facing the Netherlands in their first group match tomorrow and then Kazakhstan on Thursday, Smith could pick Dan Evans and Kyle Edmund to give the 32-year-old a day off.
