In meat, soups, omelets, salad dressings, and many other recipes, pepper is essential. Having it in the kitchen ensures a certain flavor in your dishes. To use it easily, it needs to be ground, and this is where the pepper mill comes into play. As you know, there are a thousand and one varieties available. Therefore, it is important to choose wisely.

Depending on the mechanism

The small device used to grind pepper is available in both manual and electric formats. However, it must be noted that the greatest chefs are still quite conservative. The majority opt for a manual designer pepper mill. Perhaps it is habit that leads to this choice.

But the electric model is equally effective. It should be known that when we talk about electric operation, we are referring to the use of batteries. The advantage of this model is the ability to choose the final grain size. In contrast, the final grain size of the manual device is predetermined.

Depending on its capacity

To grind fresh pepper, you do not need a very large capacity. You may have noticed that these accessories are often quite small and easy to hold in hand. Because of their mechanism and for maximum ergonomics, a longitudinal shape is preferred. The average capacity found is between 45 and 50 grams.

This isn’t a large amount, but remember that pepper is only used in small pinches in preparations. So it is more than sufficient. However, if you are a chef or looking for a designer pepper mill for your restaurant kitchen, for example, you can look for a model with a larger capacity.

According to the material of manufacture

Traditional pepper mills are often made of wood or ceramic. But you have access to several other materials within the range of manual pepper mills such as glass. Typically, there is always a mix of materials. The part that is meant to grind is most often in ceramic. This allows for a fine grain finish in the end.

So keep this in mind if your choice turns toward this model. On the electric side, glass and stainless steel are the most dominant. There’s also acrylic, wheat straw, and mixing materials as well. For this mechanism, there is no particular preference to recommend.

According to the design and aesthetics

After selecting your preferences based on the previous criteria, it’s time to focus on design. A designer pepper mill is relative to each person’s taste. In the range of both types of mechanisms, there is plenty of aesthetics to offer. If you tend toward a rather vintage or conservative style, why not try the designer pepper mill with a crank?

It is very original and just as easy to use. On the other hand, electric models offer a greater variety of colors. But if you are more manual and a fan of colors, look for models with a ceramic coating.

Ultimately, considering the multitude of pepper mills on the market, you need to choose yours carefully. Don’t forget to prioritize the resistance and durability of your equipment above all.
